ChatGPT Hack for Expats That I Use Every Day

As an expat living in Denmark, one of my biggest challenges has been dealing with official communications in Danish. Emails from kindergarten, letters from the commune, messages from service providers - all in a language I'm still learning.

Here's the hack that changed my daily life:

The Problem

Every day, I receive important emails in Danish. Before ChatGPT, I would:

1. Copy the text
2. Paste into Google Translate
3. Try to understand the sometimes awkward translation
4. Write a response in English
5. Translate it back to Danish
6. Hope it makes sense

This process was time-consuming, stressful, and often resulted in miscommunication.

1. Take a screenshot of the email/letter
2. Open ChatGPT and attach the screenshot
3. Use this exact prompt:

"Hi, here is an email from kindergarten/commune/plumber/etc. Summarize it, let me know if there are action points and craft a polite answer if needed in A2 level of Danish."

Real Life Example

This morning, I received an email from my daughter's kindergarten about an upcoming event. In seconds, ChatGPT:

• Summarized the key points
• Identified that I needed to RSVP by Friday
• Drafted a response confirming our attendance

Read ChatGPT's answer in seconds, and in 90% of cases, copy-paste the Danish response directly to email.

Feel calm and happy that I'm on top of things, knowing exactly what was said, what is needed from me, and that follow-up has been done.
